Work on the Spanning Backup beta continues. We’re getting some great real-world data from Spanning Backup beta testers.
One such user had an office manager quit and, on the way out the door, delete everything. Luckily though, they had been using Spanning Backup, and we’ve been able to recover all of their important data. We’ve also been able to identify some bugs in our restore process and in Google’s API’s. We’ve fixed our bugs and have made Google aware of theirs.
Another beta tester ran into a problem with Google Sync on his Blackberry which over the course of a couple of weeks deleted all of his contacts. Using Spanning Backup he was able to restore his contacts, and along the way helped us find and fix a bug on our end.
It’s real-world use like this that makes for a useful beta test, and we’re thankful to the hundreds of people who are participating for your help. We’re not only fixing bugs but also making the service easier for us to support so that when a problem does happen we can address it quickly and effectively.
As we near our commercial release we’d like to ask all of our beta testers to do some active testing: perform some backups, restore some of them, and check the data that gets restored into your Google account. If you see anything that’s not right, or even if everything workds exactly as expected, please let us know at beta@spanningbackup.com.
Thanks!
The Spanning Backup Team
