Spanning Backup for Salesforce: “You Spoke, We Listened”

In our interviews with Salesforce admins, it’s clear they value apps that can make their busy lives easier. We continue to evolve Spanning Backup for Salesforce to do just that—provide admins a better way to easily back up and recover Salesforce data and customizations (metadata). Our newest evolution provides admins automatic backup status email notifications, and a way for admins to choose which person or Chatter groups receives Spanning Backup updates.

Status Email

By setting Status Email for daily or weekly notifications, admins can get updates about the status of backups without needing to open Salesforce. This makes monitoring backups easy so you can quickly see if there are any issues and resolve them right away.

The Status Email includes the status of the backups, the number of changes detected across all Objects, and the number of exports and restores performed since the last Status Email.

Where to find this feature: Open the Spanning Backup tab in Salesforce. To configure the Email Status settings, click the drop-down at the top right of the Spanning Admin Dashboard and choose “Account Settings.”

How to select the frequency of Status Emails: Under Status Reports, click on “Edit” to open and then set your Status Email frequency preferences.

When you’re done setting your preferences, just click “Okay.”

How to select the email recipient for Status Emails: To select or change the email recipient for the Status email, click on “Edit.” An admin can choose to receive daily or weekly emails, and can specify any email address to send them to, including an alias.

Chatter Notifications

By selecting which user or Chatter group will receive notifications about the Spanning Backup status, admins can ensure that Chatter status update recipients are only those people for whom this information is useful–alternatively,  admins can turn off the Chatter notifications completely.

Where to find this feature: Open the Spanning Backup tab in Salesforce. To configure the Chatter status notification settings, click the drop-down at the top right of the Spanning admin dashboard and choose “Account Settings.”

How to select the who will get Chatter Backup Status notifications: Click edit in the “Chatter Posts” section of the Account Settings page. The options are to never receive Chatter posts (uncheck the box), send Chatter posts to me (the user who is logged in can only set it to themselves, not others) or choose a Chatter group from the drop-down list.

When you’re done setting your preferences, just click “Okay.”

“Your Export is Complete” Notification: When an export is complete in Spanning, we now notify Admins with a small alert on the Admin Dashboard. This will make it easier for Admins to know when they can download their Export.

These updates were made to enhance the ease of use and backup status transparency provided by Spanning Backup for Salesforce. Admins will find “easy” has become just a little bit easier, thanks to the input we receive from our customers and the Salesforce Community.
