Spanning Completes SSAE 16 Audit, Issued Attestation of Compliance

Startup further solidifies its position as the most-trusted, highest-rated, business-class backup provider for Google Workspace.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) June 22, 2012

ssae 16 spanning.jpg Spanning, the makers of Spanning Backup for Google Workspace, today announced that the company has successfully completed the Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements (SSAE) No. 16, Type 1 audit process, making it the only Google Workspace cloud-to-cloud backup provider to do so. The audit standard is acknowledged worldwide and provides vendors with a method for credibly verifying the design and operational excellence of internal systems and controls relating to privacy and security regulations.

SSAE 16, which replaces SAS 70, is an attestation standard issued by the Auditing Standards Board (ASB) of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). A vendor that undergoes an SSAE 16 Type 1 examination is rigorously evaluated on its controls over its system architecture and the service it provides to customers. The areas of examination include: infrastructure, software, employees, procedures and data handling.

“The SSAE 16 audit process is arduous, thorough and complete. We are proud that we completed the examination with flying colors; and we are proud to be recognized as one of the few vendors in the Google Workspace marketplace to successfully complete the audit process. At Spanning, our customers trust and rely on the fact that we’re built for businesses at our core. Third party audits are a critical part of demonstrating that we’re responsibly handling and protecting their data,” said Charlie Wood, CEO and founder. “We will continue to build products at Spanning that meet and exceed the functional, technical and compliance requirements of businesses that use Google Workspace. And we will continue to challenge and improve our systems to maintain our leadership position.”

Spanning believes strongly in the importance of third-party audits and is committed to adhering strictly to data privacy principles and laws, both domestic and international. The SSAE 16 audit process was a strategic initiative for Spanning and was completed by Holtzman Partners, whose other clients include HomeAway, Bazaarvoice and SolarWinds.

“As more and more companies outsource IT operations to cloud-based providers, we are seeing an increase in demand for a review of these providers’ internal controls. We commend Spanning for being proactive in obtaining a review of their internal IT controls which indicates that they make strong internal controls a priority within their organization,” said John Moellenberg, Partner, Holtzman Partners.

Prior to completing the SSAE 16 audit process, Spanning achieved certification with the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor Framework and the U.S.-Swiss Safe Harbor Framework, as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use, and retention of personal information from European Union member countries and Switzerland. The company has also been awarded TRUSTe’s Privacy Seal signifying that its privacy policy and practices have been reviewed by TRUSTe for compliance with TRUSTe’s program requirements including transparency, accountability and choice regarding the collection and use user information.

Spanning Backup for Google Workspace is the best choice for businesses that need secure and reliable protection against the risk of data loss.
