That’s a Wrap: Spanning’s Summer 2018

In Austin, where Spanning has its headquarters, schools are now open and public pools have closed. As the season changes (well, one can hope here in Texas), and we move into September, there’s a renewed focus across our teams on business goals and data protection. Before we say farewell completely to this summer of many firsts, take a quick look back at Spanning’s summertime activities and achievements, and see where you can find us this fall.

Spanning Summer 2018
Meeting Customers Across the Miles

The best part of our job is meeting our customers face-to-face and hearing how Spanning has helped them save the day, or exchanging ideas on how we can improve our product to better meet their needs.

This summer, team members from engineering, product, sales and marketing flew 17k miles to share Spanning Backup with technologists, administrators and C-Suite executives at events like Collision, Google Next ‘18 and Gartner Catalyst Conference.

Five Spannites spoke at six events, some for the very first time in a public forum, including:

Summertime, Spanning-Style

Summertime is also a time when Lady Bird Lake, which runs through the heart of Austin, fills up with stand-up paddlers. We’re all about stand-ups, of the meeting and sport variety. In fact, our “Most Valuable Player” award, given four times a year, is made in the shape of a stand-up paddler in honor of one of our earliest hires and technical leaders.

While we think all of our team members are champions…one actually is an official National Champion. Software Developer Joel Rosinbum won the USA Paratriathlon National Championship in June. He left last Sunday to race in the World Championship in Gold Coast, Australia.

Summer 2018 SpanningGrowing by Leaps and Bounds

We welcomed 10 new team members this summer into our Austin, HQ across engineering, customer success, sales and marketing.  Our new team members jumped right in to provide new enhancements like last week’s Spanning Backup for Salesforce’s Randomization of Field Values (Unique Values) using Overwrite Field Values feature.

Our new faces didn’t stop just at new hires. This year, Spanning is experiencing a baby boom with seven new babies joining the larger Spanning family. (We believe family leave is important. Our policy includes six weeks of paternity leave, and 12 weeks of maternity leave.)

Spanning Babies and Dads Four-Legged Friends

As a dog-friendly office, new pups also arrived this summer bringing their own unique personalities to the mix.

Liam is a 7-year-old Labrador Retriever mix with the heart of a young pup, despite severe arthritis that causes him to sit a little funny. “He was adopted in June from Austin Pets Alive, and he is loving his new home and coming to work at Spanning to play with his doggy friends,” according to his owner Paige Parker, support engineer.

Spanning New Office Pups

Madison is a six-month old Golden Retriever, German Short-Haired Pointer, and Doberman mix also adopted from Austin Pets Alive. “She’s inquisitive, thoughtful and very playful, and gets lots of interaction with people and other dogs at Spanning,” explains her owner, Brian Rutledge, principal security engineer.

Unveiling New Swag

Swag is a great way to share the Spanning love — but we know that oftentimes it ends up in the donation pile. This summer we upped our swag game and, as a result, our Pop Socks ended up not at Goodwill but in soccer games in South Carolina and, we hear, on a few famous musicians’ feet. At Sharepoint Fest Seattle we even snagged the top swag award.

Did you miss getting your pair? Check us out in a city near you as we take on Microsoft Ignite, Dreamforce, and many other conferences in the coming months. Pro Tip: At Microsoft Ignite, we have  a customer happy hour at The Pub. Let us know if you will be there to eat, drink and receive a special gift … maybe something even better than Pop Socks.

We couldn’t do all this without you. Thank you.
