Management Team

Spanning’s leadership team is comprised of a balanced mix of innovative technologists, driven business leaders, and passionate industry experts. Together, they bring years of experience to help the team grow, customers succeed and to make the cloud a better place.

Chad Savoy, General Manager


Chad has extensive experience scaling and developing high-performing sales teams. Through more than 17 years in enterprise sales, Chad has helped grow companies from start-ups to profitable, publicly traded firms.

Prior to Spanning, Chad served as VP of Sales for Datadog a SaaS based infrastructure monitoring company where he increased the sales team from 15 to 60+ and helped increased annual revenue by over 300%. Chad has also served as VP of North American Sales at Solarwinds (NYSE: SWI) where he contributed to increased revenue from the North American Commercial Region more than 500%, as VP of Worldwide Sales – SMB at CornerstoneOnDemand (NASDAQ: CSOD), as well as VP of Worldwide Sales for Vyopta.

Chad holds a Bachelors of Arts and Sciences from Louisiana State University.

Mat Hamlin, VP of Products

As VP of Products, Mat is responsible for understanding the needs of Spanning’s customers and defining the future of the company’s innovative line of products for protecting data in the cloud. He previously served as the product owner for multiple market-leading solutions in identity and access management from SailPoint Technologies and Sun Microsystems.

Mat brings 15 years of experience managing, marketing, designing, delivering, and supporting enterprise software products. His career spans five Austin start-ups and two technology market leaders.  As a father of two active boys, he spends most of his weekends coaching sports, hiking, canoeing, “geocaching,” and creating opportunities for learning.  He plays competitive sports to stay fit and enjoys the wind and water to relax.

Mat holds a BS in MIS and an MBA, both from Oklahoma State University.

Morag Keirns, VP of Marketing


A technical marketing director with more than 17 years experience managing interactive digital marketing projects, Morag oversees the marketing and inside sales team at Spanning. She’s focused on building the Spanning brand through marketing automation and content strategy.

Morag has been working within the interactive marketing space in Austin since 2000 and has worked with many Austin startups in senior marketing operation roles, including Olive Interactive, HumanCode and WeAreTeachers. Prior to joining Spanning in 2016, Morag worked for ThoughtWorks, a 4,000 person technology consultancy, as part of the global marketing team supporting content strategy and marketing automation across the more than 40 office locations.

Morag grew up in Scotland and holds a BA in Business Administration from Robert Gordons University, as well as a Diploma in Marketing and an Adult Education Teachers Certificate. She enjoys cooking and traveling around the globe with her husband and two children.

Heather Bendes, VP of Finance


Heather brings over 17 years of finance and accounting experience to Spanning. Her responsibilities include preparation and review of comprehensive monthly analysis of business results and project management of key strategic initiatives.

Heather began her career with Ernst & Young where she helped early stage SaaS companies successfully implement exit strategies then progressed to Maxwell Locke & Ritter LLP where she developed her expertise in mergers and acquisitions, software revenue recognition and equity structuring and transactions. She transitioned into a business development role at MLR and a CFO role 9Gauge Partners before joining the Spanning team.

Heather is a Texas CPA and holds a BS in Business Administration from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and an MS in Accountancy from the University of Notre Dame.

Matt Linderman, Director of Sales

Matt was the first Spanning inside sales rep starting with the company in October of 2012. Throughout his tenure at Spanning, Matt grew the Sales Team in people and numbers as a Team Lead, Manager and now Director of Sales.

Matt moved to Austin in 1997 to attend the University of Texas.

Byron Shaheen, Director of Customer Support & Success


Byron has over 19 years of experience in the Technical Support and IT fields.  He is currently responsible for the continued growth of Spanning’s Customer Support, Customer Success, and IT organizations.

Byron began his career in IT with the Texas Department of Transportation and later moved into technical support with Apple, Inc.  In 2004 Byron moved to Toronto, Canada, where he founded and operated a successful IT consulting company, which he eventually moved to Austin, Texas.  Byron began his relationship with Spanning in 2008 when his company was contracted to provide support for Spanning Sync.  In 2012 he decided to officially join Spanning and take over support for Spanning Backup.  He’s been committed to building exceptional relationships with Spanning’s customers ever since.

Ruel Loehr, Director of Engineering


Ruel has spent 17 years in the Software Engineering industry in a variety of roles.  He has worked as a software engineer, release engineer, and led both quality and development teams.

Ruel has worked with several startups including JBoss and Lombardi Software. He thrives on building high functioning engineering teams, solving difficult problems at scale.

Ruel holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Purdue University.
