Spanning Backup for Office 365 Extends Global Data Protection to Australia and New Zealand
Back in September, we announced that our backup and restore solution for Office 365, the best way for businesses to protect their Office 365 data, was expanding overseas for the first time with a data center in Dublin, Ireland. We were thrilled to have Office 365 users across Europe join the Spanning family, knowing they could count on our backup and restore solution for Office 365 while maintaining compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Today, we’re excited to announce that we’re continuing to expand our global SaaS data protection solution to better serve Australia and New Zealand.
Global Data Center Expansion
Starting February 15, Spanning’s data protection services will be available from a data center in Sydney, Australia. This comes at a critical time when Australian and New Zealand enterprises are readily adopting cloud technologies, with Office 365 being the most popular business application in Australia.
This expansion is driven by the needs of ANZ organizations with business-critical data, such as government agencies and centers for higher education, for a reliable and user-friendly way to protect their Office 365 data from sync errors, malicious acts, such as malware and ransomware, and human error. This is important because companies using Microsoft Office 365, not Microsoft, are responsible for recovering data lost for these reasons.

The new data center complies with Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) enforced by the Privacy Act so customers will be able to easily backup and restore data while maintaining compliance in the region. The data center will also provide some latency and efficiency gains when backing up, restoring, and exporting data for ANZ customers.
