New Admin Capability Allows Administrators to Manage Backups for Users
Spanning Backup is designed to be easy for anyone to use, but often if someone needs to restore lost data, she’ll go to her Google Workspace admin for help. The admin needs to be able to use Spanning Backup on behalf of the user without compromising the user’s account security. For these situations, we’ve added a new feature just for administrators that allows them to impersonate users in their domain so they can set preferences and perform backups and restores on their behalf. Here’s how it works.
Carol Bailey works at Global Nano Corp, which uses Google Workspace and Spanning Backup. Someone at her company has accidentally deleted the shared company calendar and she needs to restore it. She goes to her Google Workspace admin for help.
The admin signs into Spanning Backup as the domain administrator, [email protected] He sees an extra tab in Spanning Backup titled “Admin”:
He selects the Admin tab and enters Carol’s account name in the field provided:
Once he clicks “Impersonate”, he’s logged back into Spanning Backup as Carol, as indicated by the “impersonator” icon at the top of the page:
He selects the Restore tab, chooses the most recent Calendar backup, and restores Company Calendar into Carol’s account.
With Spanning Backup’s new Admin feature, domain administrators can help their users manage their backups while keeping account information secure.
