Spanning’s New Location Makes Work on Data Protection Even Better – Visitors Welcome for Open House
Last week, the Austin Business Journal reminded readers why Spanning by EMC is among the top 20 winners of the coveted Austin’s Best Places to Work award in the medium-sized business category. Their article reviewed just a few of the perks the nation of Spandinavia enjoys. And now that Spanning has moved into its brand new digs in the heart of downtown Austin, there are even more reasons to love coming to work at Spanning by EMC.
In addition to unlimited healthy (and sometimes deliciously not-so-healthy) snacks, catered lunches on Fridays, massage therapy sessions, and breakfast taco Mondays, Spanning employees now enjoy hydraulic desks – giving them the option to sit or stand during the work day – plenty of natural light, and room to grow.
When Spanning was acquired by tech giant EMC in October of 2014, EMC recognized the value that Spanning’s work style and philosophy brought to the data protection industry. Plans went into action to give Spanning an inspiring place to innovate and expand at a new location at 5th and Congress in Austin, Texas. Indeed, the new space provides the opportunity for Spanning employees to do their best work and retain key aspects of the startup heritage that have made Spanning one of Austin’s Best Places to Work three years running.
“I love how much space we have in the new office, and I am most excited that the whole Spanning crew is united in one space again,” says Phil Krauss, Territory Development Representative at Spanning.
Echoing these thoughts, Customer Service Representative Taylor Patterson adds, “I love the openness of how Spanning operates, and the open seating floor plan of the new office certainly facilitates this.”
Openness and collaboration are cornerstones of Spanning’s culture, and are in fact job requirements for building SaaS data protection products that are both reliable and easy to use. As Product Marketing Manager Gina Rosenthal explains, “I like that everyone at Spanning is collaborative and open to helping you out. That’s important because we’re solving a problem in a way that no one else is right now. I think the flow of the office really promotes that collaboration.”
Tackling a complex problem in a new way with genuine inquisitiveness and desire to deliver the best possible experience to customers doesn’t just encourage open discussion across departments, it also unites Spanning as a single team that has one another’s backs. “Even though our badges say that we work for a big corporation,” says Rosenthal, “we’ve been able to hold on to the startup roots that keep us connected and accountable to one another; I really feel like I am part of something.” Customer Success Manager Jacob Holt adds, “My favorite part about working for Spanning is the fact I’m surrounded by jovial, intelligent, and hilarious people all day. The new office forms a melting pot of sorts, allowing for people’s personalities to play off each other and create fun moments.”
A new state-of-the-art break room and game room with ping pong and foosball tables also encourage a tight-knit, fun company culture. What else could an employee ask for? “Family lunch Fridays! Bring the dog to work days!” which are Senior Product Marketing Manager Lori Witzel’s favorite perks of working here.
To share the joy of our new facility, Spanning by EMC is hosting an open house for friends, family, and the public next month. Save the date and join us on November 17 from 5-7pm at 501 Congress Ave. on the 2nd floor to be an honorary Spandinista for the night.
